Ethnographic section. The mill of Fraret

Until fifty years ago, life in Majorca was very different from life today. It was marked by a self-sufficiency economy in which it stood out the consumption of own-made products. This fact supposed a productive wheel that never ended, a constant labour throughout the year and, at the same time, this same wheel year after year… This was the cycle of life. A cycle in which time and the different seasons marked labour in the land.

Through this exhibition we will be able to see the most important tasks that were made long ago every season and the tools used to do them. It is a guided tour through a calendar in which Christian feasts and saints’ days marked most of the important landmarks. For example, the time when the products of the season, together with the activity developed and the ancient tradition, were those that determined the gastronomy and, a lot of times, an excuse to gather and celebrate.
